The 11th Annual Glendale Health Festival was held at the Pacific Community Center on November 5 and 6, 2022. The event was a collaboration between the Armenian American Medical Society (AAMS), Remote Area Medical, the City of Glendale, and the Glendale Community Services and Parks Department.
The health festival offered extensive free health screenings and services, including complete health evaluations, flu shots, COVID-19 vaccinations, bone density evaluations, women’s health screenings, eye exams, blood work, dental exams, mental health services, and health education for the entire family.
Physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals representing a spectrum of specialties offered complimentary consultations. Participants had the opportunity to receive advice and recommendations from cardiologists, neurologists, and others who donated their time to the event.
Eleven years ago, the AAMS helped launch the Glendale Health Festival in response to a lack of access to essential medical services for the area’s uninsured and underinsured. “The Glendale Health Festival is a unique event because of the extensive services offered, all of which are free to the public,” said festival co-chair Dr. Aznavour. “It is significant because the most vulnerable in our community have the opportunity to receive the healthcare they would otherwise not have access to.”
Local dignitaries were on hand to acknowledge the AAMS for our work on behalf of the community’s health. Attending the event were Laura Friedman, State Assembly Member; Glendale Mayor Pro Tem Ellen Asatryan; Captain Andrew Jenks, Acting Glendale Police Chief; Lieutenant Alex Krikorian, Glendale Police Department, GHF committee member; Jason Maruca, Field Representative for Supervisor Kathryn Barger and GHF committee member; Glendale council member Paula Devine; and State Senator Anthony J. Portantino.
The health festival is open to the entire community. These health services are particularly vital to community members who are underinsured or uninsured. This event enables them to receive essential health services and a pathway for further treatment, should they need it.
“This year’s festival was made possible by the generous participation of dozens of dedicated medical professionals and volunteers,” said Mrs. Liz Zoryan, GHF co-chair. We owe them a tremendous debt of gratitude. The committee is also grateful for the support of our sponsors. We are incredibly fortunate to be a part of a community that is invested in the health and wellbeing of others and turns its compassion into action.”
