Born in Aleppo, Syria in 1931 to Nigoghos and Adel Momjian, Dr. John Momjian received his medical education at the Medical School at Faculty Francaise in Beirut, Lebanon (1952-1958), with residencies in Switzerland, Lebanon, and an anesthesiology fellowship in Paris. Upon completing his education, Dr. Momjian settled in Beirut, Lebanon, where he began his career at the French Hospital of Sacre Coeur. In 1964, he married Sona Frankian, embarking on a new chapter in his life as he started a family. During Beirut’s civil war, he selflessly volunteered his time and talents to assist the wounded. In 1979, Dr. Momjian and his family relocated to Los Angeles, where he continued his medical career as an anesthesiologist and an instructor at the LAC-USC anesthesia department at the Los Angeles County University of Southern California Medical School. Throughout his life, Dr. Momjian was actively involved in the Armenian community, serving in various leadership roles in Syria, Lebanon, and the Los Angeles area. Notably, he co-founded the Armenian American Medical Society of California in 1985 with Drs. Barsamian and Sagherian. He took great pride in witnessing the growth and continued success of AAMSC. Dr. Momjian’s greatest pride was his four children, who blessed him with eight grandchildren. His family was the source of immense joy and happiness throughout his life. Dr. Momjian passed away on March 6, 2023, at the age of 92. Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Momjian dedicated himself to medicine and serving the Armenian diaspora. His efforts have left a lasting impact on many lives.
